Stanley Burn Wood NZ113-626 Southern entrance no parking facility here. Limited parking facilities behind Priestclose Cottages in Prudhoe NZ106 628 so please make every attempt to car share. Site is approximately 700m walk from here. For those wishing to have a Sunday lunch at about 2-30 park in the car park at the Falcon. They serve an excellent carvery for £7-95 as well as a choice of alternative meals. They serve from 12-00 to late evening. That is what I will be doing. The B6395 is accessed from the A695 from either end of the town. Travelling from North or South leave the A1 and head for Blaydon where you will pick up the A695 and follow it until you see the left turn to Prudhoe Travelling West the Falcon pub is situated on the right hand side of the B6395 which is the main road through Prudhoe and is very visible. Priestclose Cottages are on the left of the road just past the Falcon and the turn in is the first left after the Falcon. The wood is owned by the Woodland Trust and runs north along the banks of the Stanley Burn. The canopy is mostly mature Beech with a mixture of other deciduous trees and the site is of ancient origin. The main track is on the VC66 side of the stream (the other side being VC67) and is muddy in places so stout footwear is a must. We will have to retrace our steps to leave the wood the way we came in. There will be opportunity here and there to cross the stream and foray on both sides so your recording slips should be marked accordingly as to which VC you are in. Discipline will be required here!
