Dear fungi enthusiasts,
This year’s Scottish Fungus Groups’ Joint Foray will take place from Monday 7th October to Monday 14th October 2019. We will be based at Glingerbank, 11 miles south of Longtown on the A7. This link will show you details and a map: https://www.homeaway.co.uk/p8294321. You will notice that it is very close to the Border! The organisers are Neill (CAFG) and Cameron (BFG & FGSES).
The event is open to anyone interested in mycology whether or not a member of a fungus group and is a wonderful opportunity to meet people who share your interest in fungi. Daily forays aim to make records in areas of south-west Scotland that have few recent records. Collections of interesting specimens will be displayed. Evening meals may sometimes include freshly collected edible species. Evenings are dedicated to microscopy; working alongside experts to help develop our skills or for relaxing; the choice is yours.
The price for the week’s accommodation is expected to be about £200 per head, depending on how many people come. The price is the same whether you stay for the whole week or part of it. Due to the popularity of the joint foray event, we ask that you are prepared to share bedrooms (you’ll get your own bed!) so that we can accommodate as many people as possible. If you have a preferred sharing person (e.g. you know that you both don’t snore) could you agree with that person prior to replying and let us know as soon as possible. The accommodation is for 24 people and can include dog owners with dogs, so long as we plan to keep the dogs in a separate part of the house from forayers who are allergic.
As usual, we will cook and eat evening meals communally. The cost of meals is separate from the cost of accommodation.
We’d like an indication of numbers so would be grateful if you could email Neill stating your intended date of arrival and departure. This does not commit nor guarantee anyone being on this joint foray but gives us an idea of who will be coming so we can plan ahead.
If you have any questions, please contact either Neill Simpson or Cameron Diekonigin.
Happy New Year and best wishes,
Neill & Cameron
